Wanting to Learn?

OK – So you’ve decided that you want to learn how to drive.  It could be for any reason, and for that reason you’ll want to make sure that your training fits in with your lifestyle and ways of learning.

Learning to drive isn’t just about getting through the test (although it’s pretty important!) it’s all about making sure that you’ll be a safe driver for life.  The training that you will get if you decide to learn with me will be fully structured around the DSA Syllabus for Learning To Drive.  The full syllabus can be viewed here.  Only when you have mastered all of the skills in the syllabus and can perform them consistently without any prompting from me or any other instructor should you consider taking your Practical Driving Test.

The Driving Standards Agency (DSA) quote that “Those who pass their driving test have had, on average, about 45 hours of professional training combined with 22 hours of private practise.”  It is important to remember that this is by no way means a rule to be adhered to that on your 45th lesson you will be at test standard, it could be before or after.  This is why it’s really important to make sure you have a trainer that you get on well with, is punctual for your lessons, and most importantly they teach you in a way that you understand and gain the most from.

During your learner driving lessons with me you will benefit from excellent levels of instruction that are tailored to your level of skill, a variety of teaching methods designed to suit you and how you learn – and someone who’s not afraid to demonstrate something if you request!  I will fully plan your lessons in advance, record your progress and involve you with the future plans of your lessons.

As a fully qualified driving instructor I can give you lots of advice on all aspects of your driving.  This includes what to study, how to practise and what to practise, when you’re ready for test and further types of training after you’ve passed your test.

Together we will use a ‘Drivers Record’ to record your progress through the syllabus so that we can both see how well you are progressing and what areas of strengths and weaknesses you have.  You should have received a ‘Drivers Record’ with your provisional driving licence, however if you don’t have one I can get one for you or you can download one from the DSA here.

The key thing to remember is that good training will help you for the rest of your life, and yours and your family’s lives will depend upon it.
