Your First Lesson

Don’t be nervous!  You are embarking on learning a new skill for life and it should be fun.  As your instructor I understand that there is lots to learn, so we’ll take things at whatever speed you feel is best to give you loads of confidence and to make sure that everything sinks in.  You’re bound to forget things, but that’s why I’m there.

It may sound strange, but please make sure that you wear comfortable clothes and shoes.  The last thing that you want to be worrying about is whether you’re comfy or not!  Make sure your shoes are flat (sorry ladies!), they have a covered heel and that the soles aren’t too thick – you need to be able to feel the pedals of the car.  It’s a really good idea (ladies) to try and wear trousers instead of skirts.  Long skirts will make it really difficult for me to try and watch what your feet are doing!

Before your lesson try to relax for a few minutes and have a read of one of your study books to get you into the right frame of mind.  Try not to rush about before your lesson, this could spill over into your driving and cause you to make mistakes.

NOTE: Please make sure you’ve not been drinking alcohol before your lesson, if I suspect that you have I will be obliged to cancel your lesson – remember it is illegal to drink and drive.
